Saudi Arabia has unveiled a new โHajj Without Luggageโ initiative aimed at easing travel for millions of Muslim pilgrims arriving in the Kingdom ahead of this yearโs Hajj pilgrimage.
Under the new system, pilgrims will now be able to send their luggage directly from their home countries to their accommodation facilities in Saudi Arabia before even boarding their flights, removing the burden of carrying bags through airports, buses, and holy sites during the sacred journey.
Saudi authorities say the programme is part of broader efforts to modernise Hajj operations and improve the overall pilgrimage experience as more than a million worshippers prepare to converge in Mecca from across the world.
According to the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, luggage will be checked in at departure airports, transported separately to Saudi Arabia, and delivered directly to pilgrimsโ hotels and residential centres. After Hajj, the same process will be reversed, with bags collected from accommodation facilities and transferred to airports ahead of departure flights.
Saudi national carrier Saudia confirmed the initiative has already been integrated into digital travel and transport systems to ensure smooth coordination between airports, transport agencies, and accommodation providers.
Authorities believe the move will significantly reduce congestion, speed up airport procedures, and provide a more comfortable and seamless spiritual experience for pilgrims throughout the Hajj season.
The latest development comes as Saudi Arabia continues large-scale preparations for Hajj 2026, with hundreds of thousands of foreign pilgrims already arriving through airports and border crossings into the Kingdom.
