UDA landslide winner who transformed education in Fafi now shifts toward people-driven politics ahead of 2027.

GARISSA, KENYA – Fafi Member of Parliament Hon. Salah Yakub is making a significant political shift that could reshape the political landscape in Garissa County ahead of the 2027 General Election.
ASAL POST has established that the MP is moving toward the Linda Wananchi movement, a growing political platform associated with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, and is expected to spearhead efforts to introduce and popularize the movement in Garissa County.
The development is expected to culminate in a major political launch in Garissa Town in the coming days, marking the movement’s entry into North Eastern Kenya.
If confirmed, Yakub would emerge as one of the movement’s key political figures in the region, giving Linda Mwananchi a significant foothold in a county where political alliances are already beginning to take shape ahead of 2027.
The Education Record Behind the Politician

Beyond the emerging political realignment, Yakub has built his profile around education and constituency development since his election.
Education has remained a central pillar of his Fafi constituency agenda, with initiatives including a zero-fees secondary school programme, a school milk initiative and sponsorship for Fafi students pursuing teaching courses.

The teacher-training programme is particularly significant given the persistent shortage of teachers in parts of Fafi.
The MP is currently sponsoring 79 students from Fafi to pursue teaching courses, a strategy aimed at increasing the number of qualified teachers from the constituency and creating a future pool of educators who can serve local schools.
The initiatives have helped strengthen Yakub’s public profile beyond partisan politics and provided him with a development record as he considers his next political chapter.
From UDA Flagbearer to a New Political Direction

Yakub was elected to Parliament in 2022 on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket after emerging as the party’s candidate in Fafi.
He secured a decisive victory against opponents from established political parties, including Jubilee, ANC and KANU, in what was seen as a major political breakthrough in the constituency.
His emerging alignment with Linda Mwananchi, however, represents a notable departure from the political establishment that propelled him to Parliament.
The shift comes amid Yakub’s increasingly critical position on accountability and the implementation of development promises in Garissa.
Speaking in Garissa during a recent book launch at a local hotel, the Fafi MP made his position clear, saying political support for a second term should be based on what the administration has delivered to the people.
“We will weigh the scale on what has been delivered… We already have the list, and we will be ticking one by one and then give a scorecard,” he stated.
The remarks signal a growing emphasis on performance, accountability and delivery of development commitments, potentially setting the stage for a more independent political posture ahead of the 2027 elections.
What Is Linda Mwananchi?
The Linda Mwananchi movement, associated with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, has positioned itself around issues including democratic accountability, constitutionalism and the protection of citizens’ rights.
Its potential expansion into Garissa could introduce a new political platform into North Eastern Kenya, particularly at a time when politicians and political movements are positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.
For Yakub, the move could also represent a strategic attempt to broaden his political base beyond Fafi and establish himself as a prominent voice in the wider Garissa political arena.
A Calculated 2027 Move?
Yakub’s potential alignment with Linda Mwananchi comes at a politically sensitive time, with alliances and movements beginning to take shape ahead of 2027.
His combination of a strong constituency education agenda, a decisive 2022 electoral victory and a growing emphasis on accountability could give him considerable political capital as he seeks to expand his influence.
The proposed Garissa launch will therefore be closely watched.
It could mark not only the formal arrival of Linda Mwananchi in North Eastern Kenya, but also the beginning of a new political chapter for one of Fafi’s most closely watched politicians.
