BALAMBALA, Kenya – The Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM) Garissa County has strengthened its efforts to protect and empower girls through the Future 4 Binti Programme, bringing together cultural and religious leaders in Balambala Town to champion girls’ rights and promote positive social change.

The community engagement forum focused on strengthening dialogue around ending harmful practices that undermine the wellbeing, dignity, rights and future of girls, while encouraging communities to work collectively to create a safe and supportive environment for their growth and development.

The programme highlighted the critical role of religious and cultural leaders in advocating for the protection of girls, promoting education and empowerment, and fostering values that uphold the rights and dignity of every child.

The session was facilitated by Ms. Jamila Farah, Project Officer at SUPKEM Garissa, who underscored the importance of community-led initiatives in addressing challenges affecting girls and advancing their welfare.

Among those who attended the programme were Sheikh Bilal and Sheikh Aden, who represented SUPKEM in Balambala Constituency. The two religious leaders joined participants in discussions on practical ways to strengthen community support for girls and promote their protection through faith-based and community-driven approaches.

SUPKEM said the Future 4 Binti Programme forms part of its broader commitment to empowering girls, safeguarding their rights and working closely with local communities to eliminate harmful practices while creating opportunities for girls to thrive.

The organization reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with religious leaders, cultural elders and other stakeholders to build communities where girls can grow in safety, dignity and equal opportunity.
