RANGE Programme brings communities, government institutions and peace actors together in Samburu County to strengthen dialogue, cohesion and conflict prevention
LOGORATE, Samburu County – September 21, 2026
The Frontier Counties Development Council (FCDC), through its RANGE Programme, has brought together members of the Samburu and Pokot communities in Logorate, Samburu County, to commemorate the International Day of Peace 2026.
The gathering brought together government institutions, peace actors, development partners, community leaders, women, youth and elders for discussions focused on peaceful coexistence, community cohesion and collective action for lasting peace.
The 2026 International Day of Peace is being marked under the theme “Invest in Peace – For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day,” highlighting the need for sustained efforts to build and maintain peaceful communities.
The Logorate engagement provided an opportunity for participants from the Samburu and Pokot communities to reflect on their shared responsibility in promoting peace and strengthening relationships between communities.
Strengthening Community-Led Peacebuilding
Through the RANGE Programme, FCDC continues to support locally led approaches to conflict prevention and peacebuilding while strengthening links between communities and government institutions across Kenya’s frontier counties.
The programme places emphasis on community participation, creating platforms where local leaders, women, youth and elders can contribute to peacebuilding efforts and dialogue.
The Logorate gathering also highlighted the importance of continued engagement between communities and institutions in addressing challenges that can undermine peaceful coexistence.
Peace, Cohesion and Development
Participants emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration among communities, national and county governments, political leaders and development partners in strengthening social cohesion and creating an environment where communities can build resilience and pursue sustainable development.
FCDC said continued cooperation among different stakeholders remains important in supporting locally driven solutions to conflict and strengthening peace across the frontier counties.
The commemoration comes as communities across the world mark the International Day of Peace, providing an opportunity to renew commitments to dialogue, cooperation and peaceful coexistence.
For communities in frontier areas, such engagements provide platforms for strengthening relationships and supporting collective approaches to peace and development.
The message from Logorate was clear: peace is a shared responsibility, while peacebuilding is a collective and continuous journey.
