Motorists advised to expect traffic changes between August 10 and September 14 as highway authority begins infrastructure works near Bellevue.

NAIROBI, Kenya – The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a one-month partial closure of a section of Mombasa Road (A8) near the Highway Educational Complex at Bellevue to facilitate the construction of a box culvert.

In a public notice issued on Monday, August 3, KeNHA Director General Luka Kimeli said the closure will affect both directions of the highway and will be implemented interchangeably from August 10 to September 14, 2026, to minimize disruption to traffic.

According to the authority, motorists will continue using the two lanes that remain open while construction progresses on the closed sections.

“All motorists using this road section will utilize the unclosed two lanes, which shall be provided interchangeably during the construction period to minimize traffic interruptions,” KeNHA said.

The authority urged motorists to follow the approved traffic management plan and cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals who will be deployed along the affected section to guide traffic and ensure safety.

The latest traffic advisory comes as road agencies continue implementing major infrastructure projects across Nairobi aimed at improving drainage, easing congestion and enhancing the city’s road network.

Earlier this year, the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) announced temporary closures on several major roads in Nairobi to facilitate bridge and drainage construction works.

Among the affected roads is a section of Ngong Road between Windy Ridge and Westwood Park Road, which was partially closed for the installation of a twin cross culvert.

KURA also announced the closure of part of Kenyatta Avenue at the Valley Road/Jakaya Kikwete Road junction for bridge construction works scheduled to continue until February 2027.

Additionally, sections of Haile Selassie Avenue remain under partial closure as bridge construction continues along the corridor.

KeNHA has advised motorists to plan their journeys in advance, expect possible delays and exercise caution while travelling through the construction zone.
