Health Cabinet Secretary calls for restraint, responsibility and respect for others’ rights as he joins leaders and community members in supporting major Islamic development project in Nairobi.
Nairobi, KENYA – Cabinet Secretary for Health Hon. Aden Duale has called for peace and social responsibility ahead of the planned June 25 demonstrations, urging Kenyans to exercise their constitutional rights while respecting the freedoms and safety of others.
CS Duale made the remarks on Sunday while presiding over a major fundraising event organized in support of the Abubakar Islamic Centre Trust in Eastleigh, Nairobi, where he joined religious leaders, government officials, business leaders and members of the community in raising funds for the construction of a mosque and commercial building along 6th Street.
The project aims to establish a sustainable waqf (Islamic endowment) that will provide long-term financial support for the operations of the Abubakar Islamic Centre and Mosque, while promoting religious education, community development and social welfare initiatives.
Addressing the congregation, CS Duale highlighted the importance of charitable giving in Islam, particularly contributions towards the construction of mosques and institutions that serve communities.
“Building and supporting houses of worship is among the most rewarding acts in Islam. It is an investment that benefits communities, strengthens faith, and earns lasting rewards both in this world and in the Hereafter,” Duale said.
DUALE CALLS FOR CALM AS JUNE 25 DEMONSTRATIONS APPROACH
Turning his attention to national issues, the Cabinet Secretary urged young people and all citizens planning to participate in the June 25 demonstrations to maintain peace and avoid actions that could interfere with the rights and safety of other Kenyans.
Duale acknowledged that peaceful protest is a constitutional right but emphasized that such freedoms must be exercised responsibly.
“Rights come with responsibilities. The freedom to picket as guaranteed by our Constitution must be balanced with respect for those who choose not to participate. I appeal for calm, peace, and social responsibility,” he stated.
The CS’s remarks come amid heightened public attention ahead of the planned demonstrations, with leaders across the country calling for peaceful engagement and respect for the rule of law.
EASTLEIGH COMMUNITY RALLIES BEHIND MOSQUE DEVELOPMENT PROJECT
The fundraising event was hosted by Sheikh Mohamed Abdi Umal, one of the prominent Somali Islamic scholars and clerics in East Africa.
Among those who attended were Mandera North MP Hon. Maj. (Rtd) Bashir Abdullahi, Wajir Governor H.E. Ahmed Abdullahi, alongside business leaders, government officials, religious scholars and members of the Eastleigh community.
The gathering highlighted the important role played by religious institutions and community partnerships in supporting faith-based development projects, strengthening social cohesion and promoting sustainable community initiatives.
The Abubakar Islamic Centre Trust project is expected to serve as both a religious and community development investment, providing a lasting benefit to residents and future generations.
