Health CS directs police to arrest all suspected gang members regardless of status as security agencies intensify operations against rising violent crime in Garissa.

GARISSA – Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has directed security agencies to intensify operations against criminal gangs in Garissa, insisting that no suspect should be spared regardless of their social or political connections.

Speaking during the disbursement of the second phase of the Nyota Programme in Garissa Town, Duale urged police officers to relentlessly pursue individuals involved in violent crimes, saying residents deserve to live and conduct their businesses without fear.

“We want our people to continue doing their businesses peacefully and be able to go to mosques and churches without any issues,” Duale said.

The Cabinet Secretary called on police to arrest anyone suspected of involvement in the criminal gangs, even if they are relatives of senior government officials, including ministers or the county governor. He also warned against individuals attempting to interfere with police investigations or shield suspects from arrest.

Duale further urged the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to publish photographs of wanted suspects on its official social media platforms, saying the move could help identify offenders and discourage criminal activity.

His remarks come amid growing concern over a surge in violent crime across Garissa Township, where knife-wielding gangs have been linked to a series of robberies and attacks targeting unsuspecting residents.

    Police Intensify Operations

The Cabinet Secretary’s comments coincide with an ongoing security crackdown that has seen several suspected gang members arrested in recent days.

On Wednesday, detectives arrested 21-year-old Hamza Abdi Dagane, a robbery-with-violence suspect who had been on the run after failing to appear before the Garissa Law Courts.

According to police, detectives tracked and arrested the suspect in the Bulla Medina area of Garissa Township. He is facing two robbery-with-violence cases, and a warrant for his arrest had been issued after he absconded court proceedings on June 29, 2026.

Dagane was arraigned in court on July 9, 2026, where he answered to the robbery-with-violence charges.

Police say investigations and operations targeting criminal gangs remain ongoing as authorities seek to restore security across Garissa Township.

    Rallies Support for President Ruto

During the event, Duale also rallied support for President William Ruto, arguing that the Head of State is seeking re-election based on the achievements of his administration.

He cited the implementation of the Nyota Programme, road infrastructure projects, and employment initiatives as evidence of the government’s development agenda, particularly in North Eastern Kenya.

“The only President who will campaign using his manifesto is President Ruto. He has brought Nyota for youths, built roads across different parts of Kenya and created employment opportunities,” Duale said.
