Kiharu MP delays decision on whether to back President Ruto or join Opposition as political realignments intensify.
NAIROBI, Kenya – Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has asked Kenyans to give him three to four weeks before revealing his position on the country’s emerging political formations ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Nyoro, a former close ally of President William Ruto and a key campaign figure for the Kenya Kwanza administration in the 2022 elections, said he would not be rushed into making a political decision during what he described as a critical moment for the country.
Speaking during a press briefing in Nairobi on Saturday, the legislator acknowledged that his past role in championing the Kenya Kwanza agenda has influenced how he approaches current political debates.
“I was part of the team that campaigned around the country in 2022. Most of the time when I try to give alternative views and criticise, the message that comes back is, ‘But you are part of these people. It is you who came to convince us,’” Nyoro said.
The lawmaker, who has recently emerged as a vocal critic of some government policies, said his next political move would be guided by what he considers the best direction for Kenya rather than personal political interests.
“The single most important decision we are going to make as a country is how we want Kenya to proceed. That decision is not about my political convenience. It is about what Kenya will become,” he said.
Nyoro said he understands the political pressure surrounding his next move but insisted that the decision requires careful consideration.
“I know what I need to say to become politically popular immediately. But after that, where do we leave Kenya?” he posed.
The Mount Kenya legislator revealed that he has spent months developing what he described as an objective vision for Kenya’s future before deciding which political alliance aligns with his ideas.
“I request Kenyans not to push me into the situation of the moment as the storm has been ravaging around me. It is too weighty a decision to make,” he said.
Political Speculation Intensifies
Nyoro’s remarks have intensified speculation over whether he will remain in President William Ruto’s camp or seek a different political path as alliances begin taking shape ahead of the 2027 polls.
The MP’s political direction has attracted increased attention following his absence during the National Assembly vote on the Finance Bill, 2026.
His absence drew criticism, particularly because he has been among the lawmakers who have actively contributed to discussions on government budgets and economic policies.
The Finance Bill was passed after a vote that recorded low attendance, with only 162 out of 349 MPs participating, while 182 lawmakers were absent or did not vote.
Nyoro said his eventual decision will be based on what he believes will deliver the best future for Kenya.
He has now asked Kenyans to wait for his detailed position on political formations within the next three to four weeks, a move expected to shape ongoing political discussions ahead of the 2027 General Election.
