DIGITAL SHIFT BOOSTS ID ACCESS: Over 1.7 Million Kenyans Registered as New System Speeds Up Issuance.

Kenyans are now set to receive national identification cards faster following a major government push to digitize the registration process, scrap application fees, and intensify nationwide outreach to improve access.

The new system leverages advanced live-capture technology at registration centres, allowing applicants’ biometric and personal data to be captured and transmitted instantly for processing. This innovation significantly reduces paperwork, eliminates delays, and enhances accuracy in ID issuance.

Speaking after a sensitisation forum for National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs) at Kericho Teachers Training College, Principal Secretary for Immigration and Citizen Services, Dr. Belio R. Kipsang, confirmed that the reforms are already yielding results through improved coordination and streamlined digital systems.

According to the PS, more than 1.7 million Kenyans have been registered since July, signaling strong progress in expanding access to identification documents and ensuring more citizens can access critical government services across the country.
