More than 80 Imams, Khatibs and students of Islamic knowledge participated in the four-day scientific and academic training workshop organized by SUPKEM and the Saudi Ministry of Islamic Affairs in Wajir County.

WAJIR, Kenya – The Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM), in collaboration with the Saudi Ministry of Islamic Affairs, has successfully concluded a four-day scientific and academic training workshop for Imams, Khatibs and students of Islamic knowledge in Wajir County.

The training, organized through the Office of the Religious Attaché at the Saudi Embassy in Kenya, brought together more than 80 participants from across Wajir County to strengthen their understanding of authentic Islamic teachings and enhance their capacity to serve their communities.

The workshop was officially opened by Wajir Governor H.E. FCPA Ahmed Abdullahi and Wajir County Commissioner Ronald O. Enyakasi, while SUPKEM North Eastern Regional Coordinator Dr. Adan Yunis Ibrahim represented the organization’s leadership.

During the four-day programme, participants engaged in scientific and academic discussions on Islamic teachings, exchanged knowledge on emerging societal issues, and explored ways of strengthening religious leadership to better address the needs of their communities.

The training also emphasized the values of peace, unity, moderation, tolerance and peaceful coexistence, in line with the teachings of the Holy Qur’an and the Sunnah. Organizers said empowering religious leaders with sound knowledge is essential in fostering harmony, moral guidance and sustainable community development.

The Wajir workshop is part of a nationwide capacity-building initiative spearheaded by the Saudi Ministry of Islamic Affairs in partnership with SUPKEM. Similar programmes have previously been held in Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, Mandera and Garissa, with Wajir becoming the latest county to benefit from the initiative.

SUPKEM commended its continued partnership with the Saudi Ministry of Islamic Affairs, noting that the collaboration has played a significant role in advancing authentic Islamic knowledge while equipping religious leaders to promote peace, social cohesion and positive community transformation across Kenya.

The organization reaffirmed its commitment to working with partners to strengthen the role of religious leaders in addressing social challenges and contributing to national unity and development.
