GARISSA – The County Government of Garissa has conducted a sensitization forum for senior management and directorate heads to enhance understanding of the county’s medical insurance scheme and recent reforms aimed at improving healthcare access for employees and their dependents.

The forum, held at the County Headquarters’ New Boardroom, brought together county leaders to discuss available medical benefits, policy updates and the procedures for accessing healthcare services under the county’s medical cover.

The sensitization sought to ensure that departmental heads are well informed about the insurance package and can effectively guide staff on how to utilize the available healthcare services.

    Comprehensive Medical Cover

During the session, officials provided an overview of the county’s medical insurance scheme, highlighting the accredited healthcare providers and recent improvements to service delivery.

Participants were also briefed on updates to hospital networks, service level agreements and the county’s commitment to ensuring quality healthcare for employees and their beneficiaries.

County officials explained that the medical insurance package provides comprehensive healthcare benefits, including:

    • Inpatient Services
    • Outpatient Services
    • Dental Care
    • Optical Services
    • Last Expense Benefit

The leadership was encouraged to familiarize themselves with the scope of the cover to ensure staff receive timely information and support when seeking medical services.

    Biometric Registration and Digital Claims

A key highlight of the forum was the introduction of biometric registration and an automated claims management system, initiatives expected to improve efficiency, transparency and accountability in the administration of the medical insurance scheme.

Officials said the new digital systems will significantly reduce paperwork, accelerate claims processing and minimize cases of fraud while making it easier for staff to access healthcare services.

Participants were taken through the biometric verification process, which will enable county employees to receive treatment seamlessly at accredited healthcare facilities.

    Enhancing Staff Welfare

The County Government noted that the sensitization forms part of its broader commitment to strengthening employee welfare by ensuring staff have access to quality and efficient healthcare services.

By embracing digital solutions and continuously reviewing the medical insurance scheme, the county aims to improve service delivery while providing employees and their dependents with reliable medical support whenever needed.

The sensitization also provided an opportunity for senior officials to seek clarification on various aspects of the medical cover and discuss ways of enhancing awareness across all county departments.
