New board urged to champion transparency, improve infrastructure and bring services closer to residents as Garissa strengthens devolution.
GARISSA, KENYA-The Dadaab–Hagardera Municipal Board has officially been sworn in, marking a significant milestone in strengthening local governance, improving service delivery and advancing development within the municipality.
The swearing-in ceremony was witnessed by Garissa County Governor H.E. Nathif Jama, EGH, who challenged the newly appointed board members to uphold integrity, transparency and accountability in executing their mandate.
Addressing the board during the ceremony, Governor Jama said effective municipal governance is critical in strengthening devolution and ensuring that residents benefit from improved planning, infrastructure and essential services.
He urged the members to remain committed to serving the people of Dadaab–Hagardera with honesty and responsibility, noting that their leadership will play a key role in shaping the future of the municipality.
“Strong governance at the municipal level is key to strengthening devolution and bringing services closer to citizens,” Governor Jama said.
The Governor said the new board has the responsibility of transforming the municipality’s vision into reality by supporting development initiatives, improving infrastructure and creating opportunities that will uplift residents.
He noted that the board’s work will be central in building a more prosperous and sustainable future for the people of Dadaab and Hagardera.
The ceremony was attended by Cabinet Secretary Mohamud Mursal, Dadaab Member of County Assembly and Garissa County Assembly Majority Leader Hon. Mohamed Abdi Farah, among other government officials and stakeholders.
The establishment of the Dadaab–Hagardera Municipal Board is expected to enhance coordination of urban development programmes, strengthen public participation and improve the management of services within the municipality.
