The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General Collins Oyuu

The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General Collins Oyuu and his deputy Hesbon Otieno have been re-elected unopposed in the union’s latest national elections.

The polls, held at Tom Mboya Labour College, brought together delegates from across the country, with a majority of top leadership positions filled without contest—signaling strong confidence in the current KNUT leadership.

Among those also elected unopposed were National Chairman Patrick Karinga, First Vice National Chairman Malel Langat, and Second Vice National Chairman Aggrey Namisi.

Other officials who secured their positions without opposition include National Treasurer James Ndiku, Deputy National Treasurer Kennedy Nyamwanda, and Assistant National Treasurer Kullow Mohammed.

In the women’s leadership category, Mercy Kambati and Mercy Ndungu were also elected unopposed.

Out of the eleven available national positions, only the Assistant Secretary General seat remained competitive, attracting multiple candidates as voting continued.

Speaking after his confirmation, Oyuu attributed the outcome to the union’s performance, stating that their leadership has consistently delivered for teachers across the country.

“Kumi bila break. It is clear we have delivered for teachers, and we are committed to raising the bar even higher so they can benefit more through the union,” he said.

He further congratulated his fellow officials, noting that the unopposed victories reflect the trust and confidence members have placed in the current leadership.

The results mark a strong endorsement of KNUT’s leadership, with expectations now high for continued improvements in teachers’ welfare and working conditions nationwide.
