Nasteh Farah Alias Buraze Holds Talks with North Eastern ODPP Leadership on Strengthening Community Engagement, Civic Awareness and Inclusive Justice Systems.

GARISSA, Kenya – Garissa County Youth Council Chairperson Mr. Nasteh Farah Alias Buraze has held discussions with the leadership of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) North Eastern Region, focusing on justice delivery, public confidence in legal institutions, and the meaningful involvement of young people in governance and civic processes.

Mr. Buraze paid a courtesy visit to Mr. Edgar Mulamula, the Regional Coordinator for ODPP’s North Eastern Region, together with Ms. Linda Nyauncho, the Deputy Regional Coordinator, where they engaged in discussions on issues affecting communities across the region.

The meeting provided a platform to deliberate on how justice is administered, how communities experience the rule of law, and the role young people can play beyond being passive beneficiaries of public services.

Championing Youth Inclusion in Justice Conversations

During the engagement, Mr. Buraze emphasized the importance of creating stronger links between justice institutions and young citizens, noting that youth participation should be meaningful and focused on contributing to solutions affecting communities.

He said young people must be actively involved in civic discussions, governance processes, and awareness initiatives that promote understanding of rights, responsibilities, and access to justice.

The discussions also explored the mandate of the ODPP and its role in delivering prosecution services that are fair, independent, transparent, and professionally guided.

Strengthening Trust Between Communities and Justice Institutions

Mr. Buraze noted that public trust in justice institutions is built through continuous engagement, accountability, and genuine interaction with communities.

He observed that in regions such as North Eastern Kenya, where communities continue to seek greater awareness of legal processes, institutions must continue creating platforms for dialogue and public education.

“Public trust is always earned, not assumed. Institutions must continue engaging communities and creating understanding around justice systems and the rule of law,” Mr. Buraze said.

    ODPP Partnership and Community Awareness

The Garissa County Youth Council Chairperson appreciated the ODPP North Eastern leadership for embracing engagement beyond formal institutional structures.

He highlighted the importance of collaboration between youth leadership, justice institutions, and communities in promoting civic awareness and ensuring that young people understand their role in society.

Mr. Buraze said bringing youth into the civic space should go beyond symbolic representation and focus on practical opportunities that allow them to contribute to decision-making and community development.

Building a More Inclusive Future for North Eastern Youth

The engagement comes at a time when youth leadership continues to play a critical role in promoting peace, accountability, social cohesion, and development across North Eastern Kenya.

Mr. Buraze reaffirmed the commitment of the Garissa County Youth Council to working with government agencies, development partners, and community stakeholders to strengthen youth participation in governance.

He said continued partnerships between institutions and young people are essential in building informed, responsible, and empowered communities.

The meeting between the Garissa County Youth Council and the ODPP North Eastern Region marks an important step towards strengthening cooperation, promoting justice awareness, and ensuring that youth voices remain part of conversations shaping the future of the region.
